Kanazawa - Heritage of the Samurai Era
From Edo Period to Modern times, Kanazawa grew to become a town of great cultural achievements, rivaling Kyoto and Tokyo.
The city which served as the seat of the Maeda Clan, the second most powerful feudal clan, was Japan's second-largest city (after Kyoto) to escape destruction by air raids during World War II. Consequently, parts of the old town have survived in pretty good and are marvelous to visit.
Kanazawa numbers many historical attractions such as restored residences and districts, as well as modern museums. But Kanazawa's unchallenged main attraction remains Kenrokuen garden.
Hiroshima & Miyajima island -
History, heritage & sacred island
Hiroshima was founded as a castle town in the 16th century but the city became known worldwide for its unenviable distinction as the first city in the world to be struck by an atomic bomb. Today, the city is thriving and destroyed monuments of Hiroshima's historical heritage were reconstructed.
Miyajima island is highly popular thanks to its shrine with the torii gate standing in the see.
The mystical Itsukushima Shrine built on the water was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1996 and has become world-renowned since that time.
The name Itsukushima literally means 'island of worship' and from ancient times the island itself was worshipped as a god.
